Veganism is certainly not a magic pill. Most people, especially those who switch for ethical reasons, make the mistake of replacing animal protein with junk food instead of whole grains, fruits, and vegetables. A high fat vegan diet can give you a heart attack just as quickly as a high fat omnivorous one. This is also the reason for the myth of the sickly, pale vegan. There are champion vegan athletes, but most people don't think of them when they think vegan.

If done property though, your resistance to almost every western disease increases tremendously. As for your doctor, it's fantastic that you've got a clean bill of health, but I'm sorry to say that most doctors don't have a very good record in protecting their patients against most diseases, and, sadly, even themselves. Also, most of their gauges for health like weight and cholesterol level are far too high to be healthy.
