Those stages are not superimposed... and you cannot have access to the next plateau until you have finished the preceding one...
How could an infant (being dependent) be independent...??? and how could a teenager (being barely independent) be totally interdependent...???
I will agree with you though that we can regress in behavior... an interdependent person could be quite dependent if he or she was bedridden... or in such similar case...
