Girls aren't the most receptive to being asked out directly. What motivation do they have to go out with you, other than to be nice or because she likes the way you look physically?
You don't have to drop yourself in the friend zone, but you should interact with her a bit before you ask her out. Just try to strike up some conversation and chat for a few minutes, then when it's time for you to part ways, tell her you enjoyed talking with her and wanted to do it again over coffee or something.
