IMO, Nothing works better than restricting starchy caborhydrate and refined carbohydrate like rice, pasta, sugar and etc when it comes to weight loss .
If you are eating a diet that is very rich is starchy carbohydrate. You need a marathon kind of exercise to keep your insulin/blood sugar in check. Otherwise , diabetes, obesity and chronic disease are the consequences as evident in the current heath status of the world ( 1 in 3 American are diabetic ?) .
I think food choice is important when you want to lose weight the most efficient way. Favor non starchy carbohydrate (GREEN VEGETABLE) , some low GI fruits (fruits are a mixed blessing, it's bad for diabetes) , protein from organic source, healthy fat and adjust the level of starchy carbohydrate as according to your physical activities.
The above opinion is based on my experience and reading .
Remember Carbohydrate = Preferred energy source. When it's unused it's turned into fat with the help of insulin .
