Yes, good content is key, but traffic takes a while to build even with outstanding content. It can be months before you even get a comment on your blog, let alone a link from another site.
If you want to build traffic faster, then you'll need to also advertise with Google, Yahoo, Msn, etc.
I think you should have at least 20 posts though before you waste your money on advertising (if your trying to monetize your traffic).
