For the past month I've been practicing meditation and Astral Projection. I've literally read 60+ hours on the subject when I first stumbled upon it. I find it so interesting that I cant stop thinking about it. I'm 22 years old, and finally have had some profound experiences with myself and found myself on a whole new level of a relationship with myself. I feel as if I have progressed well up until now.
Here is my problem(s)...
I can quiet my mind to the point where vibrations take hold of my body. My body is completely relaxed where I cant feel my limbs. While I'm vibrating, I have never been successfully been able to come to the point of bordering sleep while the vibrations are in full force. It seems as if all the concentration on trying to keep a void pulls me from feeling tired to the point where it is easy for me to fall asleep.
Now I have tried various mindsets to try to rectify my situation. I try focusing on just a single infinitesimal thread, absolutely nothing, my third eye, and my breathing. All seem to work to bring on the vibrations but I still cant get to the borderline of sleep. Some things I've noticed are:that my eyes seem that they cant stand perfectly still, if i relax my eyes completely, it's hard to keep them closed and it seems that light seems to flicker in the corner of my eyes if they are completely relaxed, if i try to focus straight in front of me, my eyes begin to wander with the light shapes moving across my field of vision.
For some reason it is difficult to remain completely passive and receptive while the vibrations are in full force. And when I do try to be passive and receptive while the vibrations are there, they start to dwindle down. Are there and tips on trying to make your mind fall to the borderline of sleep while the vibrations are in full force?
I've read most major and minor website on astral projection and none seem to help me in this department. Robert Peterson's book seemed to be the most helpful but still isn't very specific with my problem. I haven't been able to get hypnogenic imagery with the vibrations. I have been able to get a wind sound in my ear that I think has to do with the astral plane but sticks around for about 7 seconds.
Please I need help badly, I usually am a fast learner, but have been stuck at this point for awhile now. I actually feel kinda dirty having to get help just because I can usually figure stuff out with just information that everyone else sees.
Thanks, sorry for the long post, but I'm getting a little frustrated, and I know that is counter productive, but I'm losing 3 hours a sleep a night trying to succeed! |
It sounds like you're having difficulty with getting into and staying in alpha state long enough. I bet all kinds of fun stuff happens in your sleep, or when you're just waking up. I bet also that your sleep patterns look like the following: you're either awake or asleep. Am I right? You lay down, close your eyes... and drop right off. You don't experience the drifty-dreamy sensations, and I bet you probably don't really daydream much, either.
Check out the hardware first.
Are you taking any kind of sleep aid?
Are you on antidepressant medication (SSRIs or even over the counter stuff)?
Do you consume a lot of stimulants? Do you drink coffee/coke/etc within a few hours of doing your practice?
Do you do vigorous exercise later in the day? The increased adrenaline output and uptake of serotonin can be, to your brain, like drinking a cup of coffee before bedtime.
What's your diet like?
Doing anything that helps your general state of relaxation, will help you out at least a little... meanwhile, think about the things I've suggested, and maybe there's some culprit.
I totally experience this, btw. I'm dealing with it *right now*. Whenever I've been on antidepressant meds, I've dealt with this. They wipe out the theta overabundance where my depression seems to live, but in doing so, I'm kinda locked in beta except when I'm asleep, and have two modes... WIDE AWAKE and DEEPLY ASLEEP. With very vivid dreams much of the night. Is this what you experience?
