Very interesting... When I write articles, I sometimes imagine them as visual chunks of abstraction fitting together like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. I used to do the same thing when writing computer games. I'd visualize the different parts of the game as modules of functionality that had to interact with each other in various ways: sound, game controls, graphics, game logic, collision detection, etc.

In a way you could say the role of a programmer or writer is to figure out how various abstract pieces are supposed to mate with each other. Two or more ideas mate together and spawn new offspring.
