Steve will undoubtedly give you a much more accurate answer… but here are my personal views on this…
There are three stages in personal development and growth…
1.
Dependence… at that stage, you are not able to satisfy your vital needs… someone has to assist you… (typically an infant or adolescent…)
2.
Independence… you can personally fill your vital needs… the average adult…
3.
Interdependence… not only can you fill your own needs… but you feel that you must extend outward to contribute to others around you, your community, your country and eventually mankind as a whole…
So, as you expand and grow… so will your reality…
