Speaking of coincidences
Hello folks,
I'm so glad to contribute to this board for the first time! Here's a recent Law of Attraction in Action story I'd like to share.
I'm a creative expressionist in music, poetry and theater. After watching the film "Pursuit of Happyness" on Christmas Day 2006 and reading Will Smith's wise words on the law of attraction, I decided that I would one day work with him. I also decided that I would have the experience of being an extra in a film. I had never been on a film set before and I wanted a taste of that particular form of creative expression.
Fast forward to January 4th, 2007. Out of the blue, I am invited to my first film industry party at a club in downtown Manhattan, by a guy I met on the train. I'm feeling a bit out of place as a poet/musician in a sea of PAs, DPs, sound editors, etc., but I schmooze nonetheless.
At some point in the night, I'm standing near the doorway and...I kid you not...Will Smith walks by in a thick black coat. I'm tempted to run out and grab him and tell him about this synchronicity, but something tells me that this moment is more like a sign of things to come.
January 7th, I get an email from one of my arts listservs. Usually people post about administrative jobs, cultural events, seminars...everything except film castings. Until that day.
The message called for extras for the film "I am Legend," starring...you guessed it...Will Smith. I send in my picture and resume. Three weeks later, I'm having my first film experience!
Here are Mr. Smith's wise words that got my wheels turning. He spoke them in a promotional interview for "Pursuit of Happyness":
There is an idea that things exist based on your acknowledgement of the existence of that thing. So, a barrier is there if you believe that a barrier is there. If you don’t believe that a barrier is there, then it literally is not there. That’s an idea that I have never been able to put words to, but I’ve always felt it. I’ve always felt that where I am and where I am going and how to get there is COMPLETELY in my control. There’s no racism that can hold me back. There’s no army that can hold me back. If I decide I want something, I will demand that the universe go in that direction. It’s a bizarre concept. It’s probably naïve, but your parents are always telling you that ‘you can do anything’ and it’s a cliché that we hear a lot. It’s faith!
