I'm fairly new to this way of thinking and am still learning. While I'm having some success with little I-M tests, I haven't really worked at anything big. But this thing came out of the blue and really surprised me. I'd love to hear comments from you veterans as to how you think this came about.
I attended a fundraiser for a local charity Saturday night. It was a good time and for a good cause. We had dinner and dancing and drawings for door prizes (big screen TVs, jewelry, restaurant gift cards, spa packages, cameras, etc). I had a couple of tickets in the drawings but only because they were included in the entrance fee. I don't normally win anything in these sorts of things and certainly don't hold any expectation of winning.
A couple of friends had to leave early and left their tickets with me, saying, "These probably won't win anything but if they do, you can have it."
The prize drawings were held intermittantly throughout the evening. I absentmindedly checked my numbers each time with no thought or intention of winning.
Imagine my surprise when I discovered I held the matching ticket for a beautiful, sparkly, 14k white gold, 3 ct blue topaz and diamond ring valued at over $1500.

(The winning ticket was one my friend left - and although I offered the next day, he declined the ring).
So,

in addition to not expecting to win since I normally don't, holding no (conscious) desire or intention to win, and the fact that I'm not even a big sparkly jewelry kinda gal anyhow - how did this happen?
