Actually, the body does tell us when it is deficient in nutrients - it just doesn't tell us in ways that we may immediately recognize. For instance, people who are low in iron often crave ice. Yes, ice!
I think we each receive plenty of valuable information through our bodies (emotions, symptoms, hunches, observations.) However, we disregard much of this information because its meaning isn't immediately obvious to us.
And, for what it's worth, I once read that the leader of the Breatharians (a group who maintain that it is possible to live solely on air) was caught eating a Twinkie! Food for thought...
