so, let's say an astral vampire was feeding off of two people arguing and they have NO idea it was there. Could and/or would it harm them? Or, would it just stay and feast of the negative energy? It could harm them emotionally... They feed off of fear and depression, mainly, with anger being a second-best meal. If you can keep someone angry for a prolonged time, they become depressed... If you keep on taking away their energy while they're depressed, they become even more depressed, with the cycle ending either when the person takes control of their own life, or when the person dies. If the person takes control of their life, the 'thing' will stay around for a little while longer hoping that the person will slip into their old habits, trying to spark more anger and fear, then eventually lose interest and find more suitable places to hunt.

As for why one would want to hurt Erin directly... Well, she's a threat. If she can sense it directly, then she can take steps to hurt it... such as by driving a huge astral blade of light through its heart.
