Warning : this post might be a bit long-winded and hectic.
Over the last year or two I've tried a number of things to create some "non-traditional" income (-not a "full time job") for myself. Selling software, blogging, HYIPS, AdWords (the most recent one) and so on. I got some one-shot, non-repeatable results, but largely no solid achievments.
I've read (again and again) you need to "follow your passion". In fact, I knew that long ago. Well, it would be nice to know what that passion is... So I tried the aforementioned things as they looked like they "might work". They're not completely out of alignment with my skills/interests and I still believe I did create some genuine value with some of them (software/some of my blog posts). Just not the best possible value.
Yesterday I read
this nice article and used the described technique that should help to find out what I love to do. Conclusions :
- A large part of my skills and interests are focused on computer programming. I acknowledge this and see it as an entertaining hobby, that can sometimes be usefull to other people too. However, I would never accept it as a primary focus, because it is definitely not the best thing I can do with/in my life.
- The other half of results can be loosely summarized as "magic + mystery + memory + freedom" (and related). These are the things I consider "worthy". This is watching a gathering storm and thinking - "This is what is true. The sky and the wind, the endless flow of time, the timeless creature looking through my eyes. This is the only truth." This is my poetry, my drawings and dreams. This is me and my friend discussing timespace and reincarnation
This second aspect seems much more worthy of doing than other things. It could be about art, maybe, about expressing my worldview and making other people refocus and see the magic that is within this world, and prevent them from destroying it.
However I haven't been able to find a more concrete, practical, shall we say - marketable - approach to it. My best guess so far has been digital photography/photomanipulation, as it allows to express an idea, a vision. And from the business PoV - well, I've heard it is possible to make money with stock photo sites...
Still, I'm not sure it's the right thing (not sure if there exists the "right idea"). Any suggestions?
