Like others said, yours is a classic personal effectiveness challenge. What can you triage? What can you just not do? And the things you have to do, how can you do them more effectively? If you're not clear and focussed when you're writing essays (if you write them) then learn how to write better essays. Grab a book or two about getting good grades. You don't have to read the whole book, skim it and hten go back and read the stuff that's interesting to you on the second pass.
Learn reading techniques. Speedreading, photoreading, or just follow what it says in How To Read A Book. You'll start understanding more stuff in less time.
