This article is one of Steve's best and it works. To sum it up, basically try practicing waking up to the alarm clock during the day. Condition your mind to wake up by the sound of the alarm during the day. And you'll find in the morning when the alarm clock goes off, you'll wake up without a problem.
I did this to get myself into the habit of waking up to the sound of the alarm clock as well. I would lie down in bed with all lights off, during the day, and once the alarm goes off I'd get up, go to the bathroom and wash my face. And I did that 5-10 times in a row for several days and then it became a habit. No matter how little sleep I had, as soon as the alarm went off in the morning, I would get up right away and into the bathroom and wash my face.
