Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple...that's 6. White/black don't count, but even if they did, it would be 8.
There are seven notes in the diatonic scale. Do re mi fa so la ti do. But there are 12 chromatic notes. There are even more considering microtones. There are only 5 notes in the pentatonic scale, which is the most used scale around the world.
I'm not trying to argue, I'm just trying to see how seven is the magic number.
