Just ask. I did, I asked myself one day why I was here, and I got a response. After hearing it I realized that I already knew this, I had just forgotten.
But do not put your life on hold while you wait for the answer - get out there. A good friend of mine is in his 40s and still has no idea what his purpose is, but he has accomplished so much.
