Daniel Terhorst's List #3 - 11/07/06

1) I knew 匂い meant something like smell, but while reading further into 犬夜叉, I came across 臭い, which is pronounced (or should I say spelled?) the same--both are におい. I recognized the kanji, and from the context I was able to determine that the meaning and use is also very similar. I think the only real difference is that 匂い is, perhaps, more pleasant, while 臭い seems more negative. I'm not sure about that, though. I don't know that I can draw a parallel to this kind of relationship between words in English.

2) I realized today that a slightly different "font" was used for thought bubbles in my manga than speech. I guess I'm getting better at recognizing stylistic details in kanji.

3) New food: Michelina's Pepper Steak & Rice isn't particularly bad, but like most frozen, microwave dinners, it's not exactly good, either.
