Please bear with me and let me illustrate with an analogy in my own incoherent way.
First, picture all consciousness as the ocean and each individual consciousness as a drop of water. God has created all of us as separate, individual drops of water in the ocean. The miracle is that even though we are in the ocean, and part of it, each of us still has the sacred uniqueness and integrity of a separate drop. We may be conscious of other drops around us and even touch them, and even conscious of the ocean itself, but we are not the other drops, and we are not the ocean. God has created each of us with a unique, individual consciousness. The experience of merging with all (for example, during an LSD trip), is simply that - an experience. It may be mind blowing at the time, but if it continued for any length of time, it would become a very bad trip indeed as your body became cold or tired or hungry or negative thoughts began to encroach into your mind, and you began to lose your sense of identity - and then you are on the road to insanity.
We are composed of the same stuff and have the same origin, but I am not you and you are not me. A chair is not a table, even though both may be made of wood and come from the same tree.
