Emotions are just another form of feedback. It is one of the ways you experience the internal state of your mind.
I've been investigating my own emotions and found out that, for example, fear is a response to not knowing something. Any time I experience fear, I know I need to do more research and get a better understanding of the situation.
However, I don't think emotions are "absolute". IOW, if you experience a particular emotion, it doesn't automatically mean something. If you are afraid of something, that may be because you need to educate yourself... or it may be because you are conditioned to feel that way and may continue to feel fear even if you educate yourself as much as you can.
I don't think you want to ignore or try to suppress your emotions though. They are real, and they are giving you feedback. Whether you like them or not, you gotta deal with them.
