If people stop reading, they don't generate any new page hits because they don't visit the site. Feb traffic is just as high as January, so I'm seeing a net gain in readership this year, not a decline, and it appears that's mostly happening because of an increase in referrals and in search traffic (both of which tend to be mutually supportive).
I don't need to hear from the people who stopped reading. If people don't like my content or style, I'm not going to change for them anyway, so that info isn't particularly useful to me.
I am influenced by others of course. I write many blog entries based on reader suggestions. But I don't rearrange my lifestyle just because it bothers some random people on the Internet.
