If you could offer some sort of a model that links celibacy to the greatness of those people you linked? All you've done is shown correlation, I'm going to need some evidence of causation. Dani is shown an example of causation, where the greatness of those men (through having a strong purpose) led to their celibacy. I'd love to read some sort of causation that leads celibacy to greatness or great creativity.
In the interest of thoroughness, I will probably go beyond that and do a 30-day trial of no sexual activities (including masturbation). This'll have to be after I develop better control and awareness. I did something like this once (inadvertently) and I couldn't concentrate on anything, so I don't want to end up in that sort of situation. |
Have you listened to any of the clips in the audio archives (link at top of page?) at celibacy.info. Yes, a lot of it could be considered spiritual/religious, but Julian Lee talks about how and why austerities (among them sexual restraint and meditation) work not just for spiritual development but for success in the material world. Basically he says that your outer world is a reflection of your inner world (I guess Steve would call it "Subjective Reality"), and that by indulging in sex and wasting your "essence" (he likens the orgasm to an earthquake), you not only diminish your physical/mental energy and creative powers, but your whole world will be disrupted. Somehow, negative circumstances, events and people will begin to pop up in your outer world; you basically create your own hell. But most of us are so used to this state of being that we don't even notice it.
But Julian doesn't ask you to take his word for it, he asks you to try abstinence (and he means total abstinence, i.e no sex and no masturbation) for a while and see what the effects will be in your life. Will your life situation and environment somehow seemingly magically begin to improve over time? The only way to know is to try for yourself. He also asks you to see what happens in your life when you have sex or masturbate after a longer period of abstinence, especially in the first 1 or 2 days after you "slipped". Will there be some unfavorable news/event coming into your life?
You may not believe in his model of the world, but if it works it works, right? Just try it and see for yourself. Like I said, you have nothing to lose.
Disclaimer: I know the celibacy.info website can be really offensive to some people. Julian is definitely not "politically correct". He writes and talks from a male perspective and mainly for a male audience. And he has controversial views on homosexuality and feminism among other things. OK, you have been warned.
