I am a recovering depress-o-holic and I am trying hard not to let myself think "yucky" thoughts. I just replace them with un-yucky thoughts, the best one being "I am grateful". I liked Steve's article about gratitude and trying to move to a place where you are truly grateful for everything, not just the positive things. I have another thought I am substituting for "I am tired/sick/depressed/cranky" is "I am having a human experience". Just trying to embrace that this is all part of the human experience and to be grateful for just being here to experience these things. The other thing I catch my brain doing is telling me "This is hard, being positive all the time" which I then change to "It's very easy to think positive thoughts."

And I would not give up with the bank if I were you; you should talk to people higher up who have the authority/power to help you before you consider that money lost. That is, if it is worth it to you.
