If you look at it from the perspective of love-of-self vs. love-of-others, then the levels of consiousness model works fine for either polarity.
Both polarities will naturally involve some sort of fear, but the fear will be overcome using the processes of advancing on the levels of consiousness ladder.
I see the two polarities as mirrors of each other, except the love is either focused inward or focused outward.

I'd like to say that the love-of-selfvs. love-of-others needs tweaking. Iwould add to that the love-of-others would include yourself or that by loving others you recognize that others are somehoe connected to you. And also it's hard to love someone else if you don't love yourself too.
SoI see the polarities as an expanding of how far you let your love go out. Dark is keeping the love close and light is expanding that love but also keeping self love going too.
Idon't feel that when I have loving thoughts for others that I have stopped lovingmyself or made myself less important than them - I have just been able to include them in the love I have generated for myself.
Inward, inmy mind, doesn'tflip to outword, inward expands to include more that the feelings touch.
