Personally I disagree with Steve in the way he characterises darkworking as fear-based. Rather I see darkwork as loving yourself over others, while light is loving others over yourself.

If you look at it from the perspective of love-of-self vs. love-of-others, then the levels of consiousness model works fine for either polarity.

Both polarities will naturally involve some sort of fear, but the fear will be overcome using the processes of advancing on the levels of consiousness ladder.

I see the two polarities as mirrors of each other, except the love is either focused inward or focused outward.

It's true that a love of others may involve a fear of your own power, and that a love of yourself may involve a fear of others, but these are limiting emotions for either side of the equation and a well disciplined personality will overcome that fear and focus on his love.

IMO the Star Wars analogy fits in that Fear is the path to the dark side, but the opposite of fear is not love. The opposite of Fear is Faith, and Faith is the path to the light side.

Both sides involve love, but the love is polarized differently. Love is the driving force in all of the universe, and if you want to extend the Star Wars analogy, love is The Force.
