If you are doing translation (written work), then I can't blame you for becoming bored. I did some of that, but not much.
I did interpretation (sequential and simultaneous), and so I got to work with diplomats and other high-level government folks. I was required to have a very high security clearance in order to do this sort of work.
But the most interesting work of all was in the area of law enforcement.
