Perhaps you need a different scoring system if you are sure to remain on track for each of the targets. Perhaps assign them a score out of 5 or some other arbitrary number. So for each of the 8 areas, you assign a score and total the scores and from there work out the grade. You can always weight them differently based on how important you feel they are. This may make it a little more objective and will allow you less weasel room. It'll also give you clear trends at the end that you can graph and play with the numbers (if you're into that sort of thing).
