Any decision involves certain risks, Kafaria - your choices are determined by your preferences, and mine would almost certainly be different to yours.
All I know is that we have to take care of our own welfare before we help others take care of theirs. If doing wonderful work in your neighbourhood is more important to you than anything else, that's perfectly alright - it would only be so important to you if you really have what I call karmic reasons for doing it.
No, I was not born in SA so for me this is a going-home-of-sorts. We all have to follow our calling : I feel mine very strongly and I genuinely hope you won't have to agonize over yours too much.
Where to? I have lived here in SA for 23 years without citizenship and never missed it. I wouldn't wish the fate of a refugee to anyone, but may be you can explore opportunities that will come up as soon as you seriously consider going somewhere else.
Isn't there anything else you have ever wanted to do someplace else? Other than what you're doing now? What I am trying to say is that maybe, just maybe, you are driven from your country by circumstances for a good reason?
Just think about it - a lot of work can be done without an unbearable personal risk.
