I'm with Steve. I just use whatever works the best. The great thing is that a lot of the best software is free. If you have a Mac of ever get one, start using
Quicksilver. It's free and the best part of using a Mac once you get used to it. I doubt I'll ever go back to PC.

Basically open source software is so great because people enjoy working on it. They do it voluntary and cooperatively. There is none of the big business beaurocracy.
