Most universities also have actual departments for handling graduate students who could probably answer a lot, too.

I don't think most programs have "pre-requisite courses". Actually, looking through the UWashington website for psych, the requirements are a decent GRE score and a "strong background" in statistics, scientific research experience, and relevant coursework.
