ssandra, i don't think i could say it's always a spiritual thing, but in a lot of cases it is and you look a bit young to have much hearing loss going on.
as for resources, have you tried doing a search? you'll probably have to wade through a lot of New Age material, not all of it will be 100% true, but you might find something you click with.
