It is not a requirement but it does help. From my experience, mastering your body can help master your emotions, to some level.

Being healthy is a commitment. Last week, I promised to work out four days and run three days a week. On Sunday, my last day I procrastinated until 11:15 PM. I was tired, wasn't in the mood and didn't feel inspired to continue. But, I forced myself, my first set push ups were half assed, I almost gave up but I started over and did them right. I did my work out and my run and finished at 11:56. I felt calm satisfaction that not only I've met my goal for the week, I pummeled any weakness that tried holding me back.
