As I get into Internet Marketing, I can sympathize with your view. In fact, i was bitching about the exact same thing to a friend yesterday.
But it is ultimately dis-empowering to focus on it. As long as the person isn't making outlandish promises, everything seems fine to me. In my experience,
there are plenty of legitimate "how to make money online" people, (i.e. gurudaq.com), and they have rapidly separated themselves from the pile of garbage.
