I think friendships typically evolve out of common interests. So what are your interests? Where do you spend your free time? School's OK, but a somewhat forced way to meet people.
I think frequently when people are feeing like they lack friends, what they really lack are activities where they might meet friends.
When I think about who my friends are, I have friends from music and being in bands, friends from school, friends from athletics and working out, friends from work, friends from church, friends from poker and gambling, friends from playing pencil-n-paper RPGs etc. It's not a coincidence that those are the things I've spent the last decade doing.
