I think the plan is to fine and tax employers to the point that they have no choice but to choose the public option. It will be cheaper for them to have the public option, and the private insurance companies are going to lose all their business.
Because the government is not required to be a competitive business... the rules are different when the government is telling you that you HAVE to have insurance, and making it so that the only viable alternative is government insurance, and they tell insurance companies how much they can charge, and make sure their prices are always lower. It will literally be impossible for private sector business to "compete" with something like that.
But, like I said, I don't see this as an honest way to have health care reform. I think it's an orchestrated effort by the federal government to get rid of private insurance once and for all.
