Research shows that the subconscious mind of adults does not differentiate between the reality and movies. Another piece of research shows that most decisions are made on the subconscious level, with the conscious mind just registering decisions and getting "credit" for them. In this light, by watching, a person opens the mind to a flood of data (including specifically designed ads) that will affect future decisions. Will these decisions be rational?
So my conclusion is that movies DO affect our mental abilities, since we expose our subconscious and it is the subconscious that stands at the root of our decisions.
