The problem doesn't lie in making presumptions about people. It's impossible to make rational decisions without making presumptions. Of course you don't have to be conscious of your presumption but that doesn't change the fact that you need priors.
The question is whether you have priors that do harm to some of the people you are interacting with and whether your priors allow you to make effective decisions.
