Default Yes!

Two points.

First of all, my significant other is very laid back and washes his hands much less frequently than he should. Thus, he tends to bring a few illnesses into the house every year -- which I sometimes catch. I am somewhat obsessive about washing my hands after being in public, etc. and very rarely catch something on my own. So washing one's hands is a basic -- especially in flu season.

Second, my significant other got sick last night and passed it on to me. Today he stayed in bed all day fretting that he would get really ill like he did about a month ago ... Meanwhile I went to work (I don't believe in folks going to work sick but I had a 20-person class to teach tonight) and toughed it out thinking, "this will pass by tomorrow or so."

I came home from a hard day at work ... and he was lamenting his possible fate and constantly checking his rising temperature. By the time I got home from work it was up to 101.5 degrees and he was talking about going to the hospital if it got to 103.

I said, "Look, you will get really sick if that is what you think about. Just think about getting healthy. It's probably just a 24-hour virus ... I've had many of those 24-hour things. Just think healthy."

He agreed that I was right. Two hours later his temp. had dropped 3 degrees, he was feeling much better, and he was eating his favorite food (chicken) in front of the T.V.

He admitted that I had shifted his mindset and probably his health.

The power of the mind!
