His point was that it's sad for people to be starving, therefore any belief system that suggests they brought that upon themselves is inherently evil.
Only problem is for something to be inherently evil, there have to be standards that come from Above that say what is right or wrong. And that is just as unlikely to be true in many people's minds (that's there's a God making decisions on what is right and wrong) as the concept that our thoughts could influence our reality.
Both beliefs require faith.
