I can see that many people seem to like this process, but isn't focussing so much on childhood problems quite a negative thing to do? How can raking up negative emotions from the past be good? Surely it's better to stay in the present and deal with the problem now by changing present thought patterns.
It also seems unlikely that all problems stem from childhood. If new positive thought patterns can be begun in the present, which is what all of the personal development literature seems to assume. Then why couldn't negative thought patterns also develop during teenage years and beyond?
