Anybody know whether nightmares can be controlled by these lower astrals? Do teachers or higher beings ever teach through nightmares? Any information is appreciated.
First let me say that anyone (physical person) or any entity/entities (lower astrals, negitive spirits, demonic like entities, demons, or even your guides, subconscious or higher self) could be behind your nightmare. I'm just going to use the term "somebody" instead of 'anyone or any entity/entities' for simplicities sake.

When you wrote "programmed so well that they hit you exactly where you're vulnerable" that grabbed my attention and got my mind reeling. That statement denotes that your nightmare was carefully planned/crafted by either somebody who is very familiar with you or by somebody that has studied you to some extent and has learned what your fears are.

Sometimes our guides, higher self or even our subconscious can produce nightmares to teach us something. I had the same basic nightmare for many years. I just could not figure out why I was having it. To make a long story short I finally figured out what the nightmare was trying to tell me and it went away. I think my nightmare was generated by my subconscious. Something I was aware of on a subconscous level and needed to be aware of on a conscious level.

A physical person could have sent you a nightmare either to harm you or to teach you. I did this once to somebody when I learned that this person was going to try and bring forth a demon as part of an occult self initiation. I sent this person a nightmare to show him what could happen if he did bring forth this demon. Later I found out I was successful, he had the nightmare, and changed his mind.

Treat this nightmare as you would any other dream that you want to find the meaning of. Although the nightmare may have realistic elements look at them as symbols of somethng else. Look at the action. What's going on in the simpliest terms. If your nightmare had more than one scene how many characters were in each scene including yourself. Only three people per scene a lot of times means they represent yourself, higher self and lower self (conscious, superconscious, subconscious). Look at your dream caefully.

Sometimes we are sent a nightmare to get a point accross when nothing else has worked, as a last resort. Not one so bad you can't remember it when you wake up, but just bad enough so you do remember it and pay attention to it.

Good Luck.
