Just a quick example... I'm not a consistent meditator but am intending to be. I'm experiencing the benefits first hand. Last week, I was scheduled to fly out of town to a new city to meet some new people for an employment situation. I was really nervous - almost to the point of cancelling the trip! I think I was nearly overcome by fear (I was fixated on it)! I really wanted to get this fear under control so I just decided to sit in a chair, set a timer for 15 minutes and meditate by focusing on my breath. The results were dramatic. I felt much better after just 15 minutes of meditating. I was able to go about my day not really thinking about the trip. I did end up going and it wasn't bad at all!
There are many ways to meditate. I'm starting by just sitting upright and focusing either on my breath or on my body for 15 minutes, quieting the mind of course. Sometimes I feel like going longer, sometimes not. Hope this helps.
