Exactly! I thought the same thing when I read it.

And that's an important distinction to make, I guess the skeptics tend to credit everything we experience to the reticular activating system, even when they don't know that's what it's called, but LoA believers and practitioners know there's a difference and how to tell the difference between a manifestation and a perception of something that is being brought to our awareness just because we are "looking for something", or in other words, more open to see certain things. In the podcast on Subjective Reality Steve touches that a little bit in the beginning, how some things can be be explained by the reticular activating system, while some can't. Like something showing up in the mail completely out of the blue, like it happened to me the other day, btw, is not the reticular activating system in action. It's not something that I perceive or become aware of just because I'm giving attention to something.
But you're right, even when the reticular activating system IS indeed in action, it's still beneficial.
