While I'm not against drinking, I don't generally get along with drunk people/drinkers. What this means is that I'll drink every so often, even sometimes get drunk, but rarely so. While I have found alcohol to be useful in breaking down barriers between people (having a drink with someone you don't know well can be a bonding experience) I have also had numerous bad experiences with drinking.

As for the "alcohol is poison and should never be consumed" view, I don't buy it. If you don't find drinking worth its obvious consequences, than by all means don't drink. But clearly, many people drink regularly without it becoming a health or social problem. Usually when someone is having problems with drinking, drinking is not the main problem.
