Not all people get old equally fast. While some can maintain with smooth skin into old age, other people’s biological clock appear to tick twice as fast. So far, it was assumed that especially the genes are responsible for this difference. Now German researchers have found out, however, that minor inflammations in the skin tissue is a root cause of wrinkles and sagging tissue. Responsible for this “underground” inflammation are so called free radicals, which act on the skin. The result: The skin is irritable, hypersensitive – and thus more susceptible to the symptoms of aging such as wrinkles and pigmentation spots. But we can help the skin with the right diet, which can reduce inflammation and protect the skin against further attacks.
