After reading this post and replying to it, I had to teach a couple of riding lessons. I teach people to jump their horses over stuff and how to make their horses jump quietly and just so. Well, one student was having a hard time keeping her horse straight off the second fence in the line and keeping him relaxed We went over all the technical aspects of producing a clean line and were not having much joy. The kid had a grim look on her face, the horse was getting pissed and the lesson was going down the toilet. I realized that the girl had the wrong attitude coming into the line of fences. She was 'going to war'. I explained to her about your post about the Millionaire Mindset and how I had connected it to a Weightloss Mindset. I told her that she needed to have the mindset of somebody who could ride through that line relaxed and on target. I invented the "Professional Rider Mindset". A good professional rider can step on just about any horse and get them to do their job easily and well and without too much fuss (actually, without too much ego here, I do that. But I have never really analyzed it. I just figured it comes from having ridden my whole life and liking horses as animals. I have always thought that I liked them and they liked me). If you see a lot of fireworks, that ISN'T a good professional. That is a cowboy and that is different. We discussed how it was easily with in her abilities, but maybe not within her EXPECTATIONS. She EXPECTED her young horse to have problems, so he did. I talked to her about changing her expectations and what she should expect and how it would feel. I told her to go into it thinking like a Professional Rider, somebody who does this every day. She proceeded to lay down three or four of the most consistent, smooth trips I have ever seen her and that horse produce. I dunno. I have always taught using visualization and positive thinking, but this was different and IT WORKED. When I asked her what was different, she said, "you made me feel like I could do it and it would be easy and fine. So I went in and just did what you said...I expected him to land where I wanted and I didn't fight with him." Long story not that short, I think that's what we have to do for ourselves in every area of our lives that we want to improve. We have to work ourselves into a place where we EXPECT success. Steve is there with setting up lines of income through the using the internet. He has done it before and has confidence that he can do it again. That confidence alone will help him to not back off at the first obstacle and to just look for a way around it. The rest of us don't have that confidence in ourselves, so we take every setback as a sign we can't do it, not that we have to TWEAK the way we are doing it. This all comes back to self-respect and self-worth. I have never met Steve and have read only a few of his blog entries. But I would be willing to bet that he did not lack self-confidence BEFORE he started this website. I think that the LOA works on many levels and the least important is probably the one everybody debates so much, the scientific level. I think that the reason that current teaching of the LOA works is because it is all centered around staying positive and EXPECTING that what you want is attainable. I think that maybe after a period of time of diligently working toward not allowing yourself to get bogged down and keeping your vibration high, you begin to believe in yourself somewhere deep inside your psyche. And once you believe that you can do anything and you deserve anything, you begin to expect just about anything. And once you expect it, you can produce it.
That's what I think.
