Two simple answers for you.
1. You don't have to pay more than $299 for SBI. You can buy some of their advanced features if you want, but you don't need to.
SBI will submit your site to search engines for free.
2. SBI doesn't charge you for the directory. Yahoo does. See here:

The Yahoo directory is NOT the same thing as the Yahoo search.
