Discomfort is a perfectly valid reason for not getting into the relationship.
But please don't think of it as a competition; this implies not only a prize, but also that the prize is the possibility of possession and ownership. While I realize that, for many people, this is certainly why they want a relationship, I'm gambling on the assumption that this is not as common as it seems.
