I donīt know about Canada, but in Mexico you can buy anything you want in farmacy, just over the counter.

You cannot buy vitamins etc in the supermarket (unless the supermarket has a farmacy in it, which most do) but you are free to buy it without recipe of a doctor.

I think this is a good thing. It is not correct for vitamins and other "drugs" to be available next to the candy and coffee... people need to be informed on what they buy, if it is from the pharmasy or herbs.
