I live in the U.S. In 1998 the U.S. NIH created the NCCAM (National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine). This means that the federal government is studying alternative medicine like herbs.

In July 2008, the U.S. government signed a research agreement with China. The KIB (Kunming Institute of Botany) of China Academy of Sciences will be working with 2 groups at the NCI (National Cancer Institute).

The Office of Cancer Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (OCCAM) is overseeing the MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) between the NCI and KIB. In plain English the U.S. is getting samples of the different herbs that the Chinese have been using for thousands of years.
